Richard Price
Contracting: Current News
Richard Price Contracting has been contracted by Stirling Properties to be the site General Contractor for the Hammond Square Lifestyle Town
Center. This development will require the demolition of the
existing Hammond Mall and expanding the existing site to 100
acres. We have been in negotiations with Stirling Properties
for this project for the last six months. Stirling properties
is a client that we enjoy working with and we have great
working relationship with all of their project managers. This
will be our fourth major shopping center development
for Stirling Properties. We will be performing all the work
outside of the buildings. This project will require
approximately 350,000 cubic yards of imported fill. This will be
Stirling Properties first life style town center and we are
honored that they chose Richard Price Contracting to be a part
of it. The contract value for our work for Stirling Properties
will be $16,500,000.00. We have also secured two projects for
street widening and relocation with the City of Hammond. The
value of these two contracts is $2,622,934.00. The total for
all three contracts is $19,122,934.00
Richard Price Contracting Adds GPS Automated Equipment
Richard Price
Contracting has equipped several pieces of their equipment
with GPS control. We now have one 12H Caterpillar grader and
four D5N Caterpillar dozers equipped with GPS automated
control. This has changed the way we do earth work. When we
prepare to start a project we first request the AutoCAD
drawing for the project. Our CAD Operator then takes the engineers CAD
drawings and uses a program called Terramodel to convert the
drawings to 3D. Once the drawings are converted, which can take
a week or more, they are then sent to our GPS coordinator.
He then sets a Trimble GPS base station on the jobs and
calibrates it using control points set around the
perimeter of the site. He then uploads the 3D drawings to the
machinery. From then on the operator can see what his cut or
fill is as he travels the site. When his cut or fill is within
two to three tenths he turns the machine on automatic and the
machine operates the blade as he drives the machine. The
computer screen in the machine shows him in real time where he
is on the site. Anything shown on the blueprints will
also be shown on his screen as he goes by that object. This
allows us to grade a site without any survey stakes. In the
last two years we have invested nearly a half a million
dollars in our GPS equipment. We completed the Washington
Parish landfill without any survey stakes. The final grades on
this project were certified by a independent survey company
for DEQ and was certified to be built to the exact grades
shown on the permitted DEQ drawings. We also used this
equipment on the Hammond Airport, which included 3500 lineal
feet of new runway and the Amite Wal-Mart Super Center. We
use only Trimble Products for our GPS needs. Cory Mystic and
Johnny Murphy at SMI not only sell the equipment, they know
everything that there is to know about the Trimble products.
When you see our equipment on our sites and the dozer or
graders have two tall yellow poles on the blade, they are most
likely working in automatic mode.
